Recent large-scale data breaches in Australia have highlighted concerns about the collection, handling and storage of identity documents, as well as the significant risks to individuals and organisation.

While legislative requirements outline verification obligations, the retention of identity documents can be unclear, resulting in organisations storing more than necessary for longer than needed and potentially using insecure practices.

Digital identity has become increasingly common as governments and organisations seek to use individuals' biometric markers to streamline verification processes and mitigate the risk of fraudulent activities.

Within the identity landscape, DSPANZ primarily focuses on how digital identity can be safely and securely operationalised across the Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand business software sector.

Digital Identity Working Group

The Digital Identity Working Group brings together DSPANZ members and invited industry or government participants to identify opportunities for promoting secure identity verification and reducing the collection of identity documents.

Members can access meeting outcomes and further information about the working group.
