We provided a submission to the Department of Industry, Science and Resource's consultation on supporting safe and responsible AI practices in Australia on 4 August 2023.
In this submission, we provided general feedback about the challenges DSPs face when looking to leverage AI technologies and regulatory options before responding to the discussion paper questions. In summary, we provided the following feedback:
- While DSPs see opportunities to leverage AI, they also view the existing legislative environment as a barrier to investing in AI;
- Co-design and international interoperability should be embedded in any new regulations for AI;
- We recommend following the European Union, United States, and United Kingdom approaches to regulating AI, including leveraging existing guidance and material; and
- If the government decides on a mandated risk-based approached, we recommend undertaking further consultation.
