DSPANZ would like to acknowledge and congratulate Matthew Addison following the announcement of his upcoming retirement from the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB).
Matthew has made an extraordinary contribution to the bookkeeping profession in Australia. Over more than two decades, his leadership has helped shape a strong, capable, and trusted bookkeeping community that continues to play a vital role in supporting small businesses across the country.
For the Australian business software industry, Matthew has been a consistent and valued advocate. He has long recognised the critical role that accounting software and digital tools play in enabling bookkeepers and accountants to act as trusted advisors. His perspective has ensured that policy and regulatory discussions meaningfully consider technology as a key enabler and have contributed to outcomes that balance compliance requirements with usability for small businesses and their advisors.
Matthew's leadership was particularly impactful during the COVID-19 pandemic. At a time when businesses needed to adapt rapidly to survive, his support helped ensure that practitioners has access to the right tools, guidance, and resources. HIs advocacy reinforced the importance of digital solutions in navigating complexity, a legacy that continues to benefit ICB members and the clients they serve today.
DSPANZ has had the privilege of working closely with Matthew. Over this time, a strong partnership has developed between our organisations and genuine friendships have been created.
While Matthew will be formally farewelled later this year, we wanted to take this opportunity to recognise his support of DSPANZ and the broader business software community over the past 25 years.
We are confident that Matthew has laid a strong foundation for the next phase of ICB. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with ICB and working with Matthew's successor as they bring new perspectives to the role.
