You know how your software should work, but how might an attacker make it behave differently?
Developers, now it's your time! Join Dr. Pamela O'Shea, Director of Shea Security, for Secure by Design: The Developer's Guide to How Software Gets Hacked on Tuesday 24 November 2026 at 2:00pm AEDT.
Following the decision-makers' session that kicked off our two-part Secure by Design series, Pamela returns, drawing on her experience in
software engineering and penetration testing to adopt an attacker’s perspective.
You'll take a closer look at:
- Common hacking techniques and how they exploit software
- Where security can fail, even when the software works exactly as designed
- The assumptions you make, and the mistakes that slip through as a result
- What these failures reveal about the software you build and maintain
- What developers can learn from the vulnerabilities attackers exploit

In part one, Pamela challenged decision-makers to treat security as a leadership responsibility, not just a technical one. Now she returns to turn the spotlight on the people building the software - unpacking the hacking techniques attackers use and the security fails that let them succeed.
Pamela is a penetration tester and security consultant with a background in software engineering and professional research. Her expertise spans web, mobile and network penetration testing and is deeply involved in the technical security community.
Pamela also lectures in RMIT’s master of cyber security and founded Cyberspectrum Melbourne and haXX - a group teaching hands-on security testing skills to women entering the field.
