4th Data Transparency 2016 & White House Open Data Innovation Summit in Washington DC

ABSIA Vice President & Deputy Chair, Karen Lay-Brew, spoke at the 4th Data Transparency 2016 (DT2016) and the White House Open Data Innovation Summit held in Washington DC on 28th September 2016.

US agencies acknowledged the engagement model between the ATO & industry through ABSIA, as best practice & are watching Australia's progress closely.

Australia's Standard Business Reporting (SBR) Program was specially mentioned in an opening speech by Hudson Hollister, the President of Data Foundation. The AU$1.2bn savings benefit to the economy achieved in 2015-2016 financial year attracted significant attention.

The Industry-Government engagement model was recognised as best practice, salient to the journey US has embarked on starting with the DATA Act 2014 implementation, and in driving forward with the Financial Transparency Act and the OPEN Government Data Act.

DT2016 was Washington's largest-ever open data event, and over 1,000 open data enthusiasts attended the event at the Washington Convention Center. The DT2016 Post-event Summary highlights the energy and enthusiasm developing in the Open Data industry.
