Supporting Choice in Superannuation Bill

DSPANZ provided a submission to the Senate Standing Committees on Economics' inquiry into the Treasury Laws Amendment (Supporting Choice in Superannuation and Other Measures) Bill 2025 on 20 February 2026. While we broadly supported the intent of the Bill, we provided feedback on four key areas: simplified DSP access, alignment between legislation and service design, supporting informed employee choice, and implementation timing.   • Practical and flexible implementation pathways
  • Early and detailed regulatory guidance to support compliance

Supporting Choice in Superannuation Legislation Passes Parliament

The Treasury Laws Amendment (Supporting Choice in Superannuation and Other Measures) Act 2026 recently passed Parliament. These amendments introduce:
  • Greater flexibility to request an employee's existing stapled fund earlier in the onboarding process
  • A ban on advertising super fund during employee onboarding, with the exception of stapled funds, default funds or MySuper products

The legislation is now available on the Federal Register of Legislation

Payday Super Regulations Inquiry

The Senate referred the Treasury Laws Amendment (Payday Superannuation) Regulations 2026 to the Economics Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 16 April 2026. The committee is inviting feedback from individuals and organisations, with submissions closing on 9 April 2026. Unfair Trading Practices Employment Leave Bill 2026
A new Employment Leave Bill has been introduced to replace the Holidays Act in New Zealand. The Bill proposed substantial changes to the way leave entitlements are earned, taken and paid. The Bill has now been referred to the Education and Workforce Committee with public submissions closing on Tuesday 14 April 2026. OAIC AML/CTF Guidance

The OAIC has released updated privacy guidance for reporting entities under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (AML/CTF Act). The guidance provides clear direction to businesses about what personal information they may collect, how they must protect it, and when it must be deleted, to support stronger integrity and transperancy across the AML/CTF regulatory framework. NZ Minimum Wage Changes

The adult minimum wage will be rising from $23.50 to $23.95 per hour from 1 April 2026. The starting-out and minimum wage will also rise, from $18.80 to $19.16. Learn more about the minimum wage increase and how to prepate on the Employment New Zealand website

Accessing SBSCH Records Before 1 July

Users of the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) are reminded to access and download their records before its permanent closure on 1 July 2026. After 11:59pm AEST on 30 June 2026, employers will no longer be able to:
  • Log in to the SBSCH
  • Submit super payment instructions
  • View or access historical SBSCH records
