Name: Simon Foster
Position on Board: President
Sports Team: Tottenham Hotspur (English Premier League)
Who do you work for and what do you do in that role?
GM - Asia Pacific at Storecove, responsible for launching, delivering and supporting partners of our Peppol Access Point services in Australia, NZ, Singapore and across the region.
How did you get involved with ABSIA?
My previous business, Squirrel Street, was on the ATO Product Register, and through that I received an email about the first ABSIA Conference in November 2014 and attended. Cloud Accounting was just starting to kick off, and it was obvious that ABSIA was at the heart of a rapidly changing ecosystem. I consequently joined, and was then elected to the Board at the 2016 AGM.
What keeps you busy outside of your day job and ABSIA?
Aside from time with my wife and three kids, I am football (soccer) referee in the Northern Suburbs Football Association's Premier League competition. That keeps me fit, and there's a great camaraderie between the referees and with the players and coaches.
What is the best career advice that you wish to share with others?
Don't be afraid to go out on your own. Having spent my early career working at software companies, I became a founder during the GFC in 2009, aged 37. I wish I'd done it earlier!
What is a book, movie, tv show or podcast that you would recommend?
Babylon Berlin on Netflix. Film Noir detective series set in late 1920s Berlin and the most expensive German TV series ever produced explores the dysfunction and unrest around the Weimar Republic.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Sydney. I moved to Europe alone in 2005 and then spent 10 years living in the UK, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Belgium, eventually returning to Sydney with my family. There's no better place in the world to bring up a family, and I think 2020 has shown how lucky we are to live in such a stable, multicultural and successful country.
