Name: Simon Foster |
Who do you work for and what is your role?
GM Product - eInvoicing at Xero.
How did you get involved with DSPANZ?
I went along to a monthly forum where I met with David Field and Karen
Lay-Brew. From there, I became involved with eInvoicing meetings around late 2015 to early 2016 and eventually filled a casual vacancy.
What keeps you busy outside of your work life and DSPANZ?
I'm a football (or some call it soccer) referee for kids
games through to state league.
What would you love to see happen with technology in the next 50 years?
First let's consider the past 50 years. We've had a person on the moon, there was the introduction of the internet, the first mouse
for computers... If we look at science fiction and at the Metaverse and go along the lines that people will live there, you just
never know what's going to happen with technology in the next 50 years!
Which is best - the book or the movie?
The book! You get to use your imagination – TV can offer perspective
but it's frequently completely different. With reading you think more as it's active, while watching a movie is
passive.
What has been the most rewarding part of your career so far?
Being able to see people I've worked with grow and go on
to do great things that are more than I could imagine myself doing.
If you had your own talk show, who would you invite as your first guest?
I'm going to go obscure – Greg Egan. He's a Sci-Fi writer from Perth and a physicist by training. He'd be an interesting person to speak to.
And finally, what’s the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten?
Durian. It's a Singaporean fruit. It absolutely stinks but tastes quite nice!
